Henstridge (born August 15, 1974) is a Canadian fashion model turned actress. Her most notable roles include Species and Species II.

Henstridge was born in Springdale, Newfoundland and Labrador, the daughter of Helen, a homemaker, and Brian Henstridge, a biker/contractor. She was raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada with younger brother, Shane.

At the age of thirteen, she entered the Casablanca Modeling Agency’s “Look of the Year” contest and was chosen first runner-up. The following year, Henstridge went to Paris to pursue her modeling ambitions.

At fifteen, she was featured on her first magazine cover, the French edition of Cosmopolitan. Several magazine covers followed and Henstridge went on to do television commercials for products such as Olay, Old Spice, and Lady Stetson. Her modeling career established, Henstridge moved on to a career in movies.

In her movie debut, in Species, Henstridge played “Sil”, a genetically engineered Alien/Human Hybrid created from a message recieved by SETI. She breaks free from the captivity of a laboratory when her overseers attempt to Euthanise her. Sil embarks on a killing spree while also discovering her powerful instinct to mate.

Sil is then pursued by a team of experts who band together to stop her before “The Species” multiply. With a strong cast and an interesting story angle, Species was an instant hit, raking in $113 Million (USD). Notable for its sexual content, Henstridge won the MTV Movie award for “best kiss”, for a scene in which her character, while kissing an aggressive would-be suitor, impales his head with her tongue.

The movie gave Henstridge a perfect platform to launch her acting career, but she could not capitalize on it as most of the following movies failed to generate the same excitement. Species spawned a sequel Species II, where a male alien was attempting to mate with Eve, a genetic duplicate of Sil.

Eve was played as gentle and more docile than the original Sil creating an air of sympathy for the character who spends the majority of the movie imprisoned in a glass habitat and undergoing painful experiments. The film was a failure at the box office, taking in $19 million (USD) domestically.

A few smaller independent movies followed, including Bela Donna and Dog Park, with varied box office returns. Despite having some reservations about the sci-fi genre, she signed up for John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars in the lead role and reprised her role as Eve in a brief cameo in Species III.

Ghosts of Mars was not well-received, with a 21% rating in Rotten Tomatoes. In 2000, she starred in The Whole Nine Yards, which led to its sequel The Whole Ten Yards.

She has played a number of roles on television, such as Caracara and The Outer Limits. From 2005 to 2006, Henstridge had a recurring role in the cancelled ABC drama Commander in Chief, which starred Geena Davis as a fictional female U.S. President. She also hosted Mostly True Stories: Urban Legends Revealed on TLC, a show about urban legends. Natasha guest stared in South Park episode 111 “Tom’s Rhinoplasty” as a substitute teacher.

Henstridge was working on the TV show She Spies, prior to its cancellation. She has also completed a TV movie for the Lifetime channel titled Widow on the Hill. In 2006 she filmed the CTV original mini-series Would Be Kings in Hamilton, Ontario

She will also be starring in the upcoming sequel to the video game Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, entitled Kane’s Wrath. In 2008, Natasha played a role on the new ABC show, Eli Stone.

Henstridge was married to actor Damian Chapa twice. However, the second marriage lasted only a few months and the couple divorced in 1996. She has two sons by actor Liam Waite, named Tristan River Waite, born October 1998, and Asher Sky Waite, born September 2001. She is engaged to Scottish singer-songwriter and actor Darius Danesh.

Kirsten Louise Alley (born January 12, 1951) is an American Emmy Award winning actress best known for her role in the TV show Cheers, where she played Rebecca Howe from 1987-1993, winning an Emmy as the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for 1991. A year later, she won a Golden Globe for her performance in Cheers as well. She won an Emmy in 1994 for her role in the TV-drama David’s Mother. Other critically acclaimed roles Alley is known for include: playing Diane Barrows in It Takes Two and a single mother in Look Who’s Talking, Look Who’s Talking Too, and Look Who’s Talking Now (all co-starring John Travolta). Alley has won two People’s Choice Awards in the years 1991 and 1998.

Alley was born in Wichita, Kansas, where she was raised, to Robert Deal Alley, who owned a lumber company, and Lillian Mickie Heaton, a homemaker; she has two siblings, Colette and Craig. Her mother died in a car accident caused by a drunk driver in 1981. Alley attended Wichita Southeast High School and became a cheerleader. She attended college at Kansas State University and the University of Kansas, but dropped out in her sophomore year to pursue acting. She was first seen as a contestant on the game shows Match Game in 1979 and Password Plus in 1980. On both shows she stated her occupation as an interior designer.

Alley won a supporting role in the 1982 movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, playing Vulcan officer Lieutenant Saavik. Alley turned down the role of Saavik in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock because the producers would not meet her salary demands and because she didn’t want to be typecast as a science fiction actress. Therefore, Robin Curtis assumed the role.

Alley also co-starred in a short-lived secret agent television series, Masquerade, and in the acclaimed miniseries North and South. In 1984 Alley starred in the low budget theatrical film Blind Date. Although the movie was a critical and commercial failure at the time, it has become a minor cult classic due primarily to the only on-screen nude scene of Alley’s career.

She rose to prominence in her 1987–1993 role as the neurotic corporate executive Rebecca Howe on the long-running hit TV sitcom Cheers. While Cheers was the launching pad for the successful spin-off Frasier, Alley was the only regular actor from Cheers not to appear on Frasier. She later starred in the movie Look Who’s Talking (1989) with John Travolta, which earned more than $100 million at the box office. This film was followed by two sequels — 1990s Look Who’s Talking Too and 1993’s Look Who’s Talking Now. In 1992, she played a TV news reporter in Prince’s video for “My Name Is Prince.” Her second NBC sitcom, the critically panned Veronica’s Closet, ran for three seasons in the late 1990s. Alley reportedly received $2 million in up-front fees for her work on that series and $150,000 per episode.

Alley has been honored with two Emmy Awards during her career. Her first two nominations for her work on Cheers did not earn her the award, but her third, in 1991, garnered her the statuette for that series. In her speech, she thanked then-husband Parker Stevenson “for giving me the big one for the last eight years”. Talk show hosts, as well as the creators of Cheers, poked fun at the quip for weeks afterward.

Alley won her second Emmy for her portrayal of the title role in the made-for-TV movie drama David’s Mother (1994). In 1997, Alley’s career took a different turn when she appeared in Woody Allen’s movie Deconstructing Harry. In this movie, Alley, who was then primarily known as a comedic actress, displayed a strong talent for being a serious dramatic actress by playing a psychiatrist who is married to Woody Allen’s character. She is angered upon learning that he has had an affair with one of her patients. For her contribution to the motion picture industry, Kirstie Alley has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7000 Hollywood Blvd.

In 2005, after her weight ballooned to over 200 lbs., she headlined a “mockumentary” style comedy series for Showtime called Fat Actress. Alley played herself in the show, which details the (ficticious) daily life of an overweight actress trying to make it in Hollywood. Alley has become an advocate against obesity and was/is a spokeswoman for the Jenny Craig weight-loss program; TV ads document her weight loss, which has reached 75 lbs., according to Alley on a November 6, 2006, appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. She appeared clad in a semi-bikini outfit, with a fabric midriff and several yards of translucent chiffon to hide her back-view.

The next day on The View, Rosie O’Donnell pulled up a woman from their audience who was approximately the same body size as Kirstie; the woman admitted to weighing much more than Kirstie. It was announced in early February 2007 that Alley will play the lead in a new Fox network sitcom entitled The Minister of Divine, based upon the British show The Vicar of Dibley, which starred Dawn French and was first broadcast by the BBC in 1994. However, the show was not picked up for the Fall lineup.

Alley was married to actor Parker Stevenson (Richard Stevenson Parker, Jr.) from December 22, 1983, until 1997. During their marriage, the couple adopted two children — William True (born October 5, 1992) and Lillie Price (born June 15, 1994). Alley also experienced a miscarriage as well as a stillbirth. According to media reports at the time of the couple’s divorce, Stevenson walked away from the marriage with a healthy $6,000,000 (USD) settlement, after asking for $75,000 per month in alimony from Alley. At the time of their split, Alley and Stevenson were joint owners of a mansion in Encino, California, complete with exotic animals, plus vacation homes in Islesboro, Maine, and in Kansas. She also has a ranch in the Applegate Valley of Jackson County, Oregon. The couple owned two yachts and several high-performance cars. Today, they share joint custody of their children.

“ I don’t believe in walking on eggshells around children. I don’t want them to have a static, middle-class life. I want them to experience a real life, not some pretentious existence ” She is dedicated to supporting V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women.

Alley was raised Methodist but is now a member of Scientology, like her good friends John Travolta and Kelly Preston. Alley admits to having had a cocaine addiction from 1976 until 1979, when she joined Scientology. She has served as the national spokesperson for Narconon (a controversial Scientology-affiliated drug treatment program). She has continued her Scientology training and, as of 2007, had attained the level of OT VII (Operating Thetan level 7). In May 2000, she purchased the former home of fellow Scientologist Lisa Marie Presley, a 5,200-sq-ft. waterfront mansion in Clearwater, Florida, for $1.5 million. Clearwater is the spiritual headquarters of the Church of Scientology. Alley gave $5,000,000 to the church of scientology in 2007.

Carrie Underwood became the fourth American Idol winner in May of 2005, then released a new single, “Inside Your Heaven,” which went straight to No. 1. Any doubts as to her legitimacy as an artist have since been thoroughly addressed; she stole the show at both the 2007 CMA and Grammy awards.

Carrie Underwood has sex appeal, but it’s a bit limited. Her sweetness, beauty and country charm certainly don’t harm her, but she lacks the kind of sultry edge that makes a woman really sexy. For instance, while she was a contestant on American Idol, Carrie admitted that she “can’t buy underwear.” If she needs help, we’re sure she could find many guys who’d volunteer.

Still, Carrie has some die-hard admirers. She was named the “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian” in an online poll by PETA, and she gets her share of marriage proposals on the American Idol message board.

Carrie Marie Underwood (born March 10, 1983) is an American pop country music singer who won the fourth season of American Idol. Since then, she has become a multi-platinum selling recording artist. Her debut album, Some Hearts, was certified 7x platinum and is the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history. Underwood is the first American Idol winner to sweep up honors at all three major music awards in the same awards show season (06-07), including a grand total of four American Music Awards, thirteen Billboard Music Awards, and four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist.

Her debut album, Some Hearts, has yielded five #1 hits to date on various charts in the United States and Canada: “Inside Your Heaven,” “Jesus, Take the Wheel”, “Don’t Forget to Remember Me”, “Wasted,” and her biggest hit to date, “Before He Cheats.” In addition, Underwood scored another Top 10 Billboard hit with her charity single, “I’ll Stand by You.”

Her second album, Carnival Ride (which is certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA) was released on October 23, 2007. It has so far sold over 2 million copies and has already produced a #1 country hit, “So Small.” The second single from the album, “All-American Girl”, is already steadily climbing the charts, and actually charted even before its official release due to its popularity. The single is currently sitting at #8 on the Billboard Country chart. Underwood’s Christmas single, “Do You Hear What I Hear?” peaked at #2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts.

Aside from her vocals, Underwood’s success is attributed to what many fans recognize as her wholesome image. In general, many of her songs also present inspirational and uplifting themes and messages. To date, Underwood has sold over 11 million copies worldwide in the last two years.

Carrie Marie Underwood was born to Stephen and Carole Underwood in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and was raised on her parents’ farm in rural Checotah, Oklahoma. She has two older sisters, Shanna (born 1970) and Stephanie Underwood Shelton (born 1973). Underwood had performed at Robbins Memorial Talent Show in her childhood.

She is a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. As a young child, she sang in church, and for Old Settler’s Day and Lion’s Club, local events in Checotah. In 1996, when Underwood was 13, her manager at the time tried to get her a recording contract at Capitol Records. However, due to management changes at Capitol, it never materialized.

Underwood graduated from Checotah High School in 2001 as salutatorian. After high school, she attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She graduated magna cum laude in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and an emphasis in journalism Underwood is a member of the Alpha Iota chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, For two years during the summer, she performed in Northeastern’s Downtown Country show in Tahlequah. She also competed in numerous beauty pageants at the university and was selected as Miss NSU runner-up in 2004.

In the summer of 2004, Underwood auditioned for American Idol in St. Louis. On March 22, 2005, Underwood sang a rendition of the number one 80’s rock hit “Alone” by Heart and judge Simon Cowell predicted that Underwood would not only win the competition, but would outsell all previous Idol winners.

Underwood was the second winner never to have been voted in the bottom three. While on the show, Underwood gained a loyal fan base known as “Carrie’s Care Bears.” Coincidentally, she was in the same sorority (Sigma Sigma Sigma) as Linda Denham, the creator of the original Care Bears franchise. On May 25, 2005, Underwood was crowned the winner of the fourth season of American Idol, beating out Bo Bice.

Underwood appeared on the sixth season of American Idol, where she sang her single “Wasted” on March 8. This was her fourth time performing on the show since winning the competition in 2005. Underwood also performed at the Idol Gives Back concert singing her new song, “I’ll Stand By You”, (a cover of the Pretenders hit) along with Kelly Clarkson, Rascal Flatts, and others. Underwood sang the same song at American Idol’s season finale on May 23, 2007.

Underwood’s debut album, entitled Some Hearts, was released to store shelves on November 15, 2005, entering the Billboard 200 chart with 315,000 copies sold. The large first week sales of Some Hearts made it #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and the biggest debut of any country artist since the advent of the SoundScan system in 1991. Some Hearts has since been certified septuple Platinum by the RIAA, and is the fastest-selling debut country album in the history of the SoundScan era.

The album’s second single, “Jesus, Take the Wheel” was released to radio on October 18, 2005. It received so much airplay that it debuted at #39 on the Billboard Country Chart in its first week. It eventually reached #1 for six consecutive weeks, two weeks shy of Connie Smith’s record for a solo female performer, set in 1964-1965 when “Once a Day” topped the chart for eight weeks.

Underwood’s third single, “Some Hearts” was only released to Pop, Adult Contemporary and Hot Adult Contemporary stations in October 2005 and peaked in the top 25 on the Hot AC format, while it made the top 15 on the AC Charts. “Don’t Forget to Remember Me”, the second of Underwood’s singles to be released to country radio, her fourth single overall, peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart, as well as #49 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, it did reach #1 for a week on the Radio & Records Country Singles Chart.

Both “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” have earned number one spots in Christian radio countdowns. “Jesus, Take the Wheel” won the Gospel Music Association’s award for best country single of the year.

Underwood performed “Jesus, Take the Wheel” on May 23, 2006, and received a standing ovation at the ACM Awards. She ended up winning Best New Female Vocalist and Single of the year for the song. She was also nominated for Song of the Year and Female Vocalist of the year, but did not win.

Later that autumn, Underwood’s third country single, “Before He Cheats”, hit number one on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs, staying there for 5 consecutive weeks, marking Underwood’s third country number one hit and her fourth number one hit all together.

The song peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, achieving the slowest climb ever to the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the record that was previously held by Creed from July 2000. After a year of release, the single still remains in the Billboard charts.

To promote “Before He Cheats”, Underwood performed it at the 40th Annual Country Music Association Awards on November 6, 2006, and later won both the Horizon Award for new country artists and Female Vocalist. Underwood’s double win is the first time since 1995 that an artist won both the female vocalist and Horizon award.

On November 21, 2006, Underwood went into the American Music Awards with 2 nominations, that night she left the building winning the Breakthrough Artist of the Year award. She was also nominated for Best Female Country Artist, but did not win in that category. She also attended the “2006 Billboard Music Awards” On December 4, 2006, and took home 5 awards. She won the coveted Album of the Year, Top 200 Female Artist of the Year, Female Country Artist, New Country Artist, and Country Album of the Year.

Underwood was nominated for five Academy of Country Music awards in 2007. She was nominated for Best Female Vocalist, Song of the Year, Video of the Year, Album of the Year and Single Record of the Year. She won three of her nominated catergories; Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and Female Vocalist of the Year.

On April 11, 2007, Underwood continued her success of top 2 Country singles with the release of “Wasted”. The song peaked at number 1 on the Hot Country Songs Chart, and number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video for Wasted debuted at number 2 on the GACTV Top 20 Countdown.

At the 2007 CMT Awards in Nashville, Tennessee on April 16, Underwood was nominated for three awards, including Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year, and Video Director of the Year, all for “Before He Cheats.” She won in all of the three categories. She also performed there, singing “Before He Cheats”.

In early April, Underwood took a break from working on her second album to take a trip to South Africa for American Idol’s “Idol Gives Back” charity special. A music video package from her trip aired on the show April 25. Underwood recorded an acoustic version of The Pretenders’ classic “I’ll Stand By You,” which served as the music bed for this American Idol video package. The charity single of the song released exclusively on iTunes reached the #2 spot.

Underwood also appeared in Brad Paisley’s latest album, 5th Gear, on a song entitled “Oh Love”. Aside from those activities, she also performed “Before He Cheats” and “Wasted” at the CMA Music Festival.

On December 7, 2006, Underwood’s album Some Hearts received four Grammy nominations. Underwood received two Grammy awards for “Best New Artist” and “Best Female Country Vocal Performance” while “Jesus, Take the Wheel” won “Best Country Song” and received a nomination for “Song of the Year”.

Underwood’s nomination marked the first time that an American Idol winner or contestant had been nominated in the “Best New Artist” category. The award ceremony was held on February 11, 2007 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. She also sang alongside Grammy nominees Rascal Flatts. On March 24, 2007, Underwood was featured as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live with host Peyton Manning. Underwood performed her hit singles “Before He Cheats” and “Wasted”. She became only the eleventh country music star to perform on the show.

Underwood’s second album, Carnival Ride, was released on October 23, 2007. “So Small”, the first single from the album, was released on July 31. On Carnival Ride, Underwood was more involved in the songwriting process than on the debut; she set up a writers retreat at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium to collaborate with such Music Row tunesmiths as Hillary Lindsey, Craig Wiseman, Rivers Rutherford, Tom Wehrle and Gordie Sampson.

“Carnival Ride” was certified double platinum as of December 14, 2007. Underwood appeared on the soundtrack to the movie Enchanted, performing a song entitled “Ever Ever After”. In the music video for the song she appears as both animated and live action, much like the characters in the movie. She appeared on Christmas at Rockefeller Center on November 28, 2007. She also appeared on the holiday CD Hear Something Country Christmas 2007 that featured many other country artists, with a rendition of Do You Hear What I Hear?. Since then, the song has reached #2 on the AC Chart, and held it for 3 consecutive weeks, making her best AC hit to date.

Underwood was named as Billboard’s best country artist of the Billboard year 2007, and in December 2007 over 1,000,000 People magazine readers named Before He Cheats as the song of the year

Underwood performed “Flat on the Floor”, “All-American Girl”, and “Before He Cheats” on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2008. It has been announced that between January and April 2008, Underwood will embark on a joint tour with Keith Urban named the Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy Carnival Ride Tour, with dates fixed nationwide.

At her American Idol audition, Underwood revealed to the judges that her favorite singer is contemporary country recording artist Martina McBride. Throughout her time on American Idol, home videos were shown in which she sang “Independence Day”, one of McBride’s best known songs. Underwood also released her version of “Independence Day” as the B-side to her first #1 single, “Inside Your Heaven”.

In addition to being a singer, Underwood is also a skilled guitar player, and has accompanied herself on guitar during performances of certain songs like “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” and “Inside Your Heaven” during some of her live concerts, as well as on the albums. She uses a McPherson guitar, with an off-set sound hole.

Underwood is a vegetarian and stopped consuming beef at the age of 13 as she couldn’t stand the thought of eating one of her own animals. She was voted “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian” by PETA in 2007 for the second time, the first being in 2005 alongside Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. In a 2007 interview with Peta, Underwood stated, “Ever since I was little I loved animals… If you told me I could never sing again, I’d say that was horrible, but it’s not my life. If you told me I could never be around animals again, I would just die.”

Underwood is a supporter of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and has done several public service announcements for the organization. A native of eastern Oklahoma, she co-wrote a song dedicated to her hometown, “I Ain’t in Checotah Anymore”. In December 2005, Underwood was named Oklahoman of the Year by Oklahoma Today.

Underwood performed with the USO Christmas Tour in Iraq during the 2006 Holiday season, to spread holiday cheer to the troops overseas. She follows a celebrity entertainment tradition started by Bob Hope that continues to this day. Several Internet sites have photos and video clips of Underwood’s performances in Iraq, including photos of Underwood in military garb.

Victoria’s Secret recently named Underwood the “Sexiest Female Musician”. She took the top honors along with Justin Timberlake, who was named the “Sexiest Male Musician”. She was also placed on the 2007 list of the “Most Beautiful People” by People. She will be featured in the magazine’s upcoming issue. Most recently, Underwood was honored as one of three of the most influential entertainers in America at this point in time and was named sexiest female country artist by Country Weekly.

Underwood performed at halftime of the 2006 Thanksgiving Day football game at the Texas Stadium and was subsequently romantically linked to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. Underwood attended Romo’s birthday party in April 2007, and on May 15, 2007, Romo escorted Underwood to the Academy of Country Music Awards.

Underwood is currently dating Chace Crawford. They started dating in August 2007. On October 4, 2007, People magazine reported that the two were seen holding hands in New York City.

For a young woman, Carrie Underwood has achieved quite a bit. She was an honor student in high school who went on to succeed in college. She spent a summer working for her state representative and placed admirably in pageants and contests thanks to her natural musical gifts. It’s a trajectory that many girls would envy, even if Carrie hadn’t followed it to become the fourth winner of American Idol. But she did.

As an Idol winner, Carrie Underwood becamse familiar to millions of TV viewers and music fans alike. She’s had several hits on the Billboard Country charts, and has won four American Music Awards, 13 Billboard Music Awards, four CMT Music Awards, and three Grammy Awards. Kelly Clarkson, eat your heart out!

As part of her American Idol win, Carrie signed a recording contract with Arista Records. In June 2005, she released a single, “Inside Your Heaven,” which debuted at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. She was the first country artist to ever debut at No. 1 on that chart, although “Inside Your Heaven,” a rather schmaltzy Idol anthem, isn’t a strictly country song.

More promising was the B-side, a cover of Martina McBride’s “Independence Day.” Life for Carrie Underwood didn’t have the chance to settle down after her American Idol win. All the publicity and work on an upcoming album (planned for a November 2005 release) didn’t even leave her much opportunity to celebrate. She became a spokesperson for Hershey’s chocolate and Skechers shoes, adopting a hectic schedule that sent her rushing back and forth between New York, Los Angeles and Nashville — and just about everywhere in between.

carrie underwood at the american music awards, Not only did Carrie Underwood win Favorite Female Artist in country at the 2007 American Music Awards, but her album Some Hearts also won for Favorite Album in country.

carrie underwood is named no. 23 in 2008 top 99, That same year Carrie Underwood also sang on the soundtrack for the flick Enchanted. She also worked on tour dates with Keith Urban, and she ranked No. 66 on AskMen.com’s Most Desirable Women of 2007 list and No. 23 in 2008.

The Hannah Montana 3D movie could be considered marketing mastery or a sneaky trick. Hannah Montana Release: Savvy or Sneaky? No Big Surprise When Disney Extends ‘Hannah Montana’ Limited Release.

Hurry, hurry, hurry! The movie event of the year! One week only! It’s one of the oldest tricks in the marketing book — the limited-time offer — and The Walt Disney Co. worked it to perfection last weekend when tweens spent $31.3 million to see the studio’s latest hit, “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert.”

But now that the 3-D film’s run has been extended, were parents duped into rushing their kids to the theater? Or was it just another case of Disney’s marketing mastery?

Dan Smith, marketing professor at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, called the strategy “a legitimate tool.”

“When you create that kind of buzz and combine it with scarcity, you’re going to drive up demand,” Smith said. “The model strikes me as not much different from a rock concert.”

As most media companies are ceding control of when and where consumers can watch shows or listen to music, Disney is managing its content as tightly as ever. And based on the movie’s results — the “Hannah Montana” film set a record for any movie opening on a Super Bowl weekend — people are falling over themselves to keep Disney’s schedule.

“When you have a successful franchise, setting the time table and controlling the distribution just develops an appetite for more,” said Michael Kupinski, media analyst and head of research at Noble Financial Group. “No one is as good at this as Disney.”

The company rode the strength of its “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “High School Musical” and “Hannah Montana” to a 9 percent increase in fourth-quarter revenue and better-than-expected earnings. Fees at its ESPN sports networks and higher visitors to Disney theme parks also boosted earnings. Disney shares rose $1.43, or 5 percent, to $31.50 Wednesday.

Robert Iger, Disney’s president and chief executive, credited the company’s focus on developing brands and producing content across its various media and theme park properties.

“Five years ago we could count upon only two major franchises, and today we have 10 vibrant, creative properties,” Iger said in a conference call with Wall Street analysts.

“Hannah Montana” fits the mold perfectly. It started as a TV show on the Disney Channel and the concert tour generated $36 million in ticket revenue last year. The movie has already grossed more than five times the $7 million the company said it cost to make.

Disney plans to produce a third season of the TV show and may produce a feature film based on the show.

The company says it planned all along for a one-week run for the “Hannah Montana” film, envisioning it as an extension of the wildly popular concert tour that played to sold-out arenas across the country last year.

Disney has also used limited-time offers to sell anniversary or special versions of its iconic animated movies, from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” to “Pinocchio,” and has changed the terms to meet demand.

The studio extended the “Hannah Montana” run on Saturday, giving theater operators the option to show the film for as long as they like. Disney said it responded to “astounding” demand on the opening weekend.

But the company also knew long ago the movie would be a smashing success.

Advance ticket sales were higher than for any movie that was not a sequel, and the fifth-highest ever, according to online ticket seller Fandango. In fact, it has been the top-selling movie at the service since the tickets went on sale Dec. 1.

Fandango alone sold more than $9 million in advance tickets for the weekend shows of “Hannah Montana,” nearly a third of the total box office. Disney says it told theater operators well in advance the company would extend the run if demand was high.

The company says it wasn’t trying to manufacture scarcity to drum up demand.

“We were trying to make it like an event, like a concert,” said Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios, Motion Picture Group.

“If we were trying to make it scarce we would have had a more limited release,” he said.

The movie ran on all of the country’s 683 public screens equipped to handle 3D films, and averaged $45,534 per screen over the weekend. A typical blockbuster opens in 3,000 theaters and averages about $7,000 at each, according to industry statistics.

Most movies are released as broadly as possible, Smith said. “You want a large number of people to see it quickly just in case it doesn’t fly,” he said.

A trend that has alarmed studios is huge opening weekends that fade quickly after a blast of negative word of mouth. That makes the first weekend even more important, Smith said.

“By limiting the run, you can eliminate the effects of bad press by forcing anyone who’s interested to see the movie right away,” he said.

Apparently Disney won’t need to worry about an abrupt falloff in ticket sales. “Hannah Montana” received an “A” grade from moviegoers polled by CinemaScore, and Fandango said advance sales remain strong for the movie into next week. ~ By Jeremy Herron, AP Business Writer

Though Taylor Hicks’ quirky soulfulness made him 2006’s American Idol, runner-up Katharine McPhee’s classic good looks and voice and affinity for traditional pop made her a strong contender throughout the season. In fact, she was one of the first semifinalists to make it to the final 12. A native of Sherman Oaks, CA, McPhee began singing at age two.

Katharine Hope McPhee (born March 25, 1984) is an American pop and R&B singer, model who was the runner-up to Taylor Hicks on the fifth season of American Idol in 2006.

Her mother, Patricia McPhee, is an established singer in her own right, performing and recording as Peisha McPhee. She helped Katharine develop as a vocalist and gave her more formal training than many American Idol hopefuls receive. Though McPhee sang and acted throughout her childhood and high-school years, she began taking singing more seriously in college, attending Boston Conservatory as a musical theater major.

After three semesters, however, she left for Los Angeles to audition for film and television work. McPhee scored roles in the film Crazy, a musical about Hank Garland, and an MTV series, You Are Here, which didn’t make it to the air. She also appeared in productions of Annie Get Your Gun and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir before auditioning for American Idol in 2005.

McPhee was persuaded by Nick Cokas and her parents to try out for American Idol. She auditioned in San Francisco, and sang “God Bless the Child”, originally performed by Billie Holiday. Paula Abdul said that McPhee was “absolutely beautiful”, Randy Jackson hailed her audition as potentially the best so far that season, and Simon Cowell complimented her for being “current” and her audition being “absolutely fantastic”.

McPhee listed Whitney Houston and Brian McKnight as her favorite artists in the American Idol interview of the top 24 semi-finalists. During the week preceding the top three show, she was a runner-up in the Kennel Club Finals. McPhee visited her former high school for her hometown celebration. Antonio Villaraigosa visited Notre Dame High School and proclaimed McPhee’s visit as “Katharine McPhee Day.”

McPhee’s run on American Idol led to the popular use of the term “McPheever”, coined by Ralph Garman of Los Angeles radio station KROQ’s morning show Kevin and Bean. She also referred to her fans as the “Kat Pack” and “McPhans”.

McPhee was congratulated by Congressman Brad Sherman of Sherman Oaks, the 27th district of California, who raised a flag in her honor at the United States Capitol on the day of the finale show. McPhee was credited with performing KT Tunstall’s “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” during the Idol final run.

During the Idol Finale, McPhee duetted with Meat Loaf. They performed It’s All Coming Back To Me Now, which Loaf would go on to record with Rocker Chick’ Marion Raven, whose voice has been compared to Katharine’s.

During the competition, McPhee roomed with fellow contestant Kellie Pickler, and when Pickler was eliminated, she roomed with Paris Bennett.

Once McPhee made the final 12, her performances of songs such as “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” and “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” made her one of the favorites of American Idol judges and viewers. After the American Idol season ended, McPhee was signed by show creator Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings Limited label and released her first single, Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny; it became the second best-selling single of 2006.

That summer, after bouts with bronchitis and laryngitis, she joined the rest of the finalists and Hicks on the American Idols LIVE! tour and also toured with Andrea Bocelli, who appeared on American Idol as a guest judge. McPhee began recording her self-titled debut album in the fall, working with collaborators such as Timbaland’s production partner, Nate “Danja Hand” Hills, Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, and songwriter Kara DioGuardi. “Over It,” which was written by the songwriting team of Billy Steinberg, Josh Alexander, and Ruth-Anne Cunningham, arrived a few weeks before Katharine McPhee was released in early 2007.

On June 6, 2006, Sony BMG and 19 Entertainment announced that McPhee had signed to American Idol series creator Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings Limited and Sony BMG’s RCA Records.

McPhee’s debut single, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny” was released on June 27, 2006 by RCA Records. “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and “My Destiny” peaked at #60.

Thirty-two weeks after its release, Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny had climbed to #4 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales charts. It was 2nd highest best-selling single of 2006 after Taylor Hicks’s “Do I Make You Proud?”. After 58 weeks, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny” continues to chart, #47, on Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart, the week of Sept 1, 2007.

McPhee toured with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, and performed duets, “Somos Novios” and “The Prayer” in three of his concerts during his tour in the United States from June 9 through June 11, 2006. She and Bocelli also performed and recorded duets, “Somos Novios” on the JC Penney Jam album and “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on Bocelli’s Under the Desert Sky album.

In June 2006, McPhee revealed to People magazine that she previously suffered from bulimia. After a period of about five years, she began treatment after qualifying for American Idol. During her run on American Idol, she lost 30 lbs.

McPhee missed the start of the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2006, due to severe bronchitis and laryngitis. McPhee commented on her illness in a public interview, saying “I just have to sing easily so I can get through the tour… I bruised [my vocal cords] because I was doing so much coughing”.

McPhee eventually joined the tour on July 28, in Washington, D.C. just in time for all ten finalists to visit the White House to meet President George W. Bush. The day prior to returning to the Idol’s tour, McPhee was a guest co-host on The View.

On July 21, 2006, Broadway World announced that McPhee is co-producing Michael Albanese’s play Red Herring along with Robert Hawk, Angelina Bruno, and Jeff Kasal. McPhee was quoted in the promo as describing a desire to become involved in theatre, stating that although “audiences know me best from American Idol… my passion has always been theatre.” The play will be a part of the 10th Annual New York International Fringe Festival.

McPhee and her sister appeared on debut of The Dr. Keith Ablow Show on September 18, 2006 to discuss her struggles with an eating disorder, bulimia, and her childhood fear of her father. On the show, McPhee stated that she was thought to have a learning disability during her middle school years but was finally diagnosed with a vision problem.

In October 2006, McPhee dedicated a performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” during the Carousel of Hope Ball which Whitney attended.

On November 22, 2007, McPhee sang the National Anthem before a national audience in Detroit before the Thanksgiving Day NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.

McPhee was named one of the 100 Most Beautiful People of 2007 by People Magazine. She was voted #2 on FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in The World of 2007. Katharine was also #47 on Maxim’s Hot 100 Women of 2007. A People Magazine report, which emerged unconfirmed in November 2007, said McPhee was engaged to marry boyfriend Nick Cokas.

On December 3, 2007, McPhee and her mother Peisha McPhee performed ‘Silent Night’ at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Sacramento, California. On January 3, 2008, McPhee sang the National Anthem before a national audience in Miami, FL at the FedEx Orange Bowl game between the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Kansas Jayhawks.

On February 2, 2008, McPhee married boyfriend Nick Cokas in a Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church with a gospel choir. There were about 300 guest in attendence. Including I Know What Boys Like costar Rumer Willis.

McPhee’s self-titled debut album sold 116,000 copies its first week, debuting at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The first single from the album was the Top 30 hit, “Over It”.

“Over It”’s music video hit #1 on both TRL’s and VH1’s Top 20 countdown. “Over It” debuted at #1 on the VH1 top 20 countdown, and maintained the top position for three consecutive weeks. The song’s video also hit #1 on MTV Asia’s Pop 10 Chart for 12 consecutive weeks.

“Love Story” was the second single and music video from McPhee’s album. The video hit #1 on MTV Asia and stayed there for 5 consecutive weeks. It has peaked at #5 on TRL.

“Love Story”, “Not Ur Girl”, “Open Toes”, “Neglected”, “Each Other”, and “Home” were written by BMI’s Pop Songwriter of the Year, Kara DioGuardi. During a concert tribute for Neil Sedaka at the Lincoln Center in New York City on October 26, 2007, Grammy award winning producer/songwriter, David Foster, announced that he and Katharine McPhee will be doing an album together.

As of January 11, 2008, it has been reported by Billboard.com that McPhee has parted ways with RCA Records label. Direct from a BMG spokesperson: “Katharine McPhee has moved on to support her other entertainment activities.” a rep for RCA Records confirms that McPhee is no longer on the label’s roster, adding that, “Katharine is going to record her next album on her own.” McPhee’s self-titled debut charted at a promising No. 2 in February 2007, but it never reached gold status. Katharine McPhee is looking for new ways to make money now that she’s been dropped by her record label.

A magazine insider tells the ex-“American Idol” contender has been trying to sell photos from her upcoming February marriage to Nick Cokas and was looking for the immodest sum of $60,000.

American Idol star Katharine McPhee has married actor Nick Cokas in a lavish ceremony in Los Angeles. The 23-year-old singer-turned-actress has been dating Cokas–who is 19 years her senior–for over a year after they met on the set of a theater production.

And the couple, who got engaged last year, finally wed at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church on Saturday, according to People.com. McPhee wore a strapless ivory Manuel Mota gown to walk down the aisle at the ceremony, which was attended by 305 guests, including fellow American Idol contestants Kellie Pickler and Mandisa.

Kimberly Jayne Raver (born March 15, 1969) is an American actress. She is known for her roles as Kim Zambrano on the TV show Third Watch and Audrey Raines on 24.

Raver was born and raised in New York City. From the ages of six to nine, she had a regular role on the seminal children’s television series Sesame Street.

After Sesame Street, the young actress joined Off-Off-Broadway’s first all-children’s theater. A fine arts graduate of Boston University, Raver continues to study theater in New York with teacher and mentor Wynn Handman.

She is fluent in French and German, a language that she learned as a child from her German-born mother.

Together with husband Manuel Boyer she has two sons, Luke (b. 2002) and Leo (b. 2007). Leo Kipling Boyer was born on October 9, 2007, in New York City where Raver is filming her new show, Lipstick Jungle.

Watched by millions of diehard conspiracy fans, Kim Raver gained her first big national exposure as the conflicted Audrey Raines on Fox’s “24” (2001- ), but the New York native had been performing on stage and both the big and small screen since she was a child.

Born March 15, 1969 in New York City, NY, Raver was one of two sisters born to her German mother Tina Raver. She gravitated towards performing at a very early age, earning her first credit as “Kim” during a three-year stint on “Sesame Street” (PBS, 1969- ).

Soon after, Raver began honing her craft at an off-off-Broadway theater devoted to child performers.

A fine arts graduate from Boston University in 1991, Raver’s early credits included national commercials for Visa and Jeep (the latter directed by Ridley Scott); she also landed a supporting part in the TV-movie “Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills” (1994) and had a recurring role in Darren Star’s short-lived “Central Park West” (CBS, 1995-96).

Raver’s big break and first critical raves came with her appearance in the Broadway production of “Holiday,” opposite Laura Linney and Tony Goldwyn, from 1995 through 1996. Guest roles on “Law and Order” (NBC, 1990- , “The Practice” (ABC, 1997-2004), and “Spin City” (ABC, 1996-2002) soon followed, and Raver also logged time as a cast member of the drama series “Trinity” (NBC, 1998-99) for producer John Wells.

During this period, Raver also appeared in a summer production of Warren Leight’s play “The Glimmer Brothers” with David Schwimmer and the late John Spencer, at Williamstown. Impressed with her presence, Wells also cast Raver as paramedic Kim Zambrano in his police/firefighter drama “Third Watch” (NBC, 1999-2005).

Raver stayed with the series until 2004 – during which she appeared in a cross-over episode of another Wells’ production, “ER” (NBC, 1994- ).

A pair of independent features followed her departure from “Third Watch” – Eric Schaeffer’s comedy “Mind the Gap” (2004) and a horror film, “Prisoner” – before she joined “24” in 2005. As CTU member Audrey Raines – the daughter of Secretary of Defense James Heller (William Devane) – Raver struggled with her feelings for Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) – feelings that were complicated immeasurably when he indirectly allowed her husband to die.

She also found herself pawn to villainous agents who interrogated her with sodium pentothal, implicating her in terrorist attacks, and nearly leaving her to die. Naturally, Jack’s quick thinking rescued her from this fate.

Since joining “24,” Raver completed several films for television and theatrical release, including the psychological thriller “Keep Your Distance” (2005), and a supernatural film, “Haunting Sarah” (2005) for Lifetime.

At the beginning of her adult career, Raver acted in commercials for Visa and Jeep. Her big break came with her Broadway debut in the play “Holiday” in which she co-starred with Laura Linney and Tony Goldwyn. She also appeared in the feature film City Hall with Al Pacino.

She also co-starred with John Spencer (of NBC’s The West Wing) and David Schwimmer in “The Glimmer Brothers”, a production of the Williamstown Theatre Festival, written by Warren Leight. After her time on Third Watch, she was cast as Audrey Raines in the popular television series 24, and was a series regular for two seasons.

During the Fall 2006 television season, Raver starred in the ABC television series The Nine. Although the show received outstanding pre-season ratings, it did not take off, and was therefore canceled. She reprised her role in 24’s season 6 as Audrey Raines.

Although Audrey Raines was presumed to have been killed, it was later revealed that she is still alive and was being held captive by the Chinese. The character was in a comatose state at the end of the season. It has not been confirmed whether Raver will reprise the role or not for the seventh season. Raver will star in the new television series Lipstick Jungle set to premiere on NBC in 2008.

In casting their votes, readers are asked to look beyond sex appeal and beauty to pick women who have the characteristics they value in a potential companion, like intelligence, humor, charisma, and ambition.

The result is an annual list that acts as the definitive gauge for identifying what modern men desire most in their female companions.

This year, over 5 million votes were cast as AskMen.com readers identified the females from the worlds of music, fashion, sports, and entertainment who they felt best represented their ideal woman.

Who has joined the exclusive ranks of previous winners Laetitia Casta, Charlize Theron, Monica Bellucci, Adriana Lima, Jessica Alba, and Beyonce Knowles in being named 2008’s No. 1? Find out by making your way up through the list –

Here’s an exclusive sneak peak of some of the women voted onto the Top 99 list in 2008:

The Honorees:

Blake Lively
Voted as the No. 99 Most Desirable Woman of 2008
2008 marks Blake Lively’s debut on the AskMen.com Top 99 list. Although she’s been acting for years in films like “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” (2005) and “Accepted” (2006), the 20-year- old California native had a breakout year in 2007 with her starring role as Serena van der Woodsen on the hit teen TV series “Gossip Girl.”

Lindsay Lohan – View her Desktop Wallpapers:
Voted as the No. 95 Most Desirable Woman of 2008
Lindsay Lohan might have done everything except star in a hit movie this year. Plummeting 45 positions to finish at No. 95, Lindsay proved to be perfect tabloid fodder in 2007 with her highly publicized antics, which included a bizarre car crash, an arrest, and a subsequent stint in rehab.

Jessica Simpson – View her Desktop Wallpapers:
Voted as the No. 47 Most Desirable Woman of 2008
Jessica Simpson is the quintessential all-American girl, and in 2007 (after calling it quits with crooner John Mayer) she made the ultimate patriotic move to date All-American quarterback Tony Romo. After Dallas’ suspiring NFC divisional playoff loss to the New York Giants, Cowboy fans tagged her with the nickname Yoko Romo. Aside from breaking her nose on the set of her upcoming 2008 film “Major Movie Star,” Jessica announced that she will be returning to her Texas roots and releasing a country album in the coming year.

Eva Longoria – View her Desktop Wallpapers:
Voted as the No. 29 Most Desirable Woman of 2008
Eva Longoria is the reason why men don’t complain about “Desperate Housewives.” Eva sizzled as Gabrielle all year and still found time to make a cameo in “The Heartbreak Kid,” model for Bebe Sport and host the 2007 NCLR ALMA Awards. In 2008, she’ll appear in “Lower Learning,” “Over Her Dead Body,” “Foodfight!,” and “Deep in the Heart of Texas.” When told her she made AskMen.com’s list again, she said: “[It's] probably … because I married Tony Parker. So people think, ‘Cool! Sports guy!’ That is really flattering and fun. … It’s better than the alternate lists — the not-so-hot of the year!”

Kim Kardashian -
Voted as the No. 28 Most Desirable Woman of 2008
Hollywood socialite Kim Kardashian is one busy lady: She owns her very own high-end clothing boutique, stars in a reality TV show, “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” and still finds the time to cameo in the occasional homemade porn video. But while Kim Kardashian might have a talent for batting those eyelashes at the camera, it’s her curvaceous Jessica Rabbit-like physique that drives the boys crazy.
